SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore forward Andrew Hayes
(Hoboken, N.J. / St. Peter's Prep) scored a penalty
kick for the Crusaders, but SU ultimately fell to Catholic 2-1
Saturday afternoon at Sassafrass Field in Landmark Conference
action.
The Cardinals (6-3, 2-0) got on the board at 31:58 in the first
half with an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Michael DiMarco
to put Catholic up 1-0.
Sophomore forward Ian Smith scored off a pass from Ben Fleri to
put the Cardinals up 2-0 with 73:21 in the second half.
The Crusaders (4-5, 1-1) got on the board after Hayes blasted
his penalty kick attempt past goalkeeper Torsten Meuschke at 86:33
in the second half.
Catholic outshot SU 21-6 and held the advantage in corner kicks
7-4.
This is the eighth consecutive one-goal differential match for
the Crusaders.
SU will look to bounce back as they host Penn College on
Wednesday, Oct. 5th at 4:30 p.m. at Sassfrass Field in
non-conference action.
