Five in a Row for Volleyball

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Susquehanna volleyball team carried the momentum from a 4-0 weekend into its Wednesday match at McDaniel, sweeping the Green Terror 3-0.

The win is the Crusaders' fifth straight win as they captured 25-8, 25-12 and 25-8 straight-set wins over McDaniel (0-20). SU trailed just briefly early in the third set, the only time the Crusaders didn't hold a lead.

Three players had at least five kills apiece for SU, led by nine from Kaylee Monga (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) as she boasted a .750 attack percentage. Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) led the team with seven digs to go along with a match-high six service aces. Freshman Julia Caruso (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had 10 assists, three digs, one service ace and a block assist.

The Crusaders scored the first three points of the match and never looked back. They won the match by 17 points, their largest lead of that opening set.

In the second set SU (10-13) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and went up 22-12. SU closed out the set with three straight points for a 25-12 win.

The Crusaders held a 16-3 lead more than halfway through the first set and outscored McDaniel 9-5 over the remainder of the set to clinch the set and the match.

The Crusaders compete in their second Landmark Conference Round Robin Tournament this Saturday and Sunday at Catholic University.
