HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Three players in double figures and a 51
percent shooting performance led the Susquehanna men's
basketball team to a 75-67 victory over Juniata in the Crusaders
2010-11 season finale on Saturday night.
Sophomore Harvey Pannell led all players with
23 points while Spenser Spencer added 19 and
senior Rob Estep chipped in 15 points to
complement his seven boards, three assists and three steals.
SU (11-14, 7-7) sank 26-of-51 field goal attempts and 6-of-15
three-point shots, led by three from Estep. The Crusaders, who had
led by 14 at halftime, survived a late Juniata rally to hold on for
the eight-point margin of victory.
Susquehanna took its first double-digit lead of the game on a
Pannell layup at the 5:17 mark of the first half that made it
30-19. That bucket was part of a 14-0 Crusaders run that helped
them take a 38-24 lead at halftime.
SU took a 16-point edge (61-45) on a Spencer trey with only 5:25
remaining in the game before Juniata made a late charge. The
Eagles' Nate Higgins cut SU's lead to just four points,
71-67, on a layup with only 18 seconds to play, but four combined
free throws from Spencer and Pannell over the game's final
seconds prevented Juniata from completing the comeback.
