Box Score
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Crusaders put their 3-0 record on the
line against Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday afternoon in
men's lacrosse action and the Diplomats handed SU its first
loss of the season in a 16-7 decision.
F&M (4-1), ranked 28th in the most recent
laxpower.com poll, put together scoring stretches of seven and six
goals and held SU (3-1) to its lowest scoring output of the
season.
Susquehanna (3-1) used three goalies in the game. Jordan
Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) played the first 30
minutes and finished with seven saves in his second start of the
season.
Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) led the team with two goals and was one of six
different players to score for the Crusaders. Tim Pastore
(Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) chipped in one goal and one
assist.
Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) got the
scoring started early, netting the game's first goal after
less than two minutes of action to give his squad the early 1-0
advantage.
The explosive start was a bit misleading as the remainder of the
quarter passed without a goal from either team. Susquehanna,
however, opened the second quarter in similar fashion to the first
when Luke Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) found
Breakey who fired the ball into the back of the net 35 seconds into
the quarter.
Barely more than a minute later, Tylere Fritts (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) took a Pat Brogan (Lancaster,
Pa./Hempfield) pass and redirected into the goal to make
it 3-0 in favor of SU.
F&M quickly took the momentum away from the Crusaders by
scoring seven-straight goals in an eight-minute span take a 7-3
lead with five minutes still to play in the quarter.
Marcus Cheatham (Reistertown, Md./Loyola HS)
finally snapped that streak with a score at the 4:07 mark to make
it 7-4, which remained the halftime score.
Unfortunately the Diplomats got on the scoreboard just 15
seconds into the third quarter on a man-up goal from Chris Kelly
for the 8-4 lead.
The scoring continued for F&M as they netted five more
unanswered goals that made it 12-4 as the third quarter wound
down.
Breakey chipped in his second goal of the
afternoon, and team-leading 10th of the season, that
made it 13-5 with 10:19 remaining in the game. With 4:08 left,
Justin Caba (Yonkers, N.Y./Stepinac) scored for
the third-straight game and Pastore chipped in
SU's final goal of the game with 13 seconds on the clock.
