SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The 2011 home opener was a winning one
for the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team as the Crusaders
took down Lycoming 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon. Susquehanna (2-3)
saw nine different players score, led by three from Ally
Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Erin Dyer
(West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell).
In addition to Bauer and Dyer's three goals,
Lindsey Derstine (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern
Lehigh) chipped in two scores while six other players
netted single goals. Ainsley Rositto (Rocky Hill,
Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) and Sarah Wright
(Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS), two of those six players,
also added one assist apiece.
SU goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye
Falls-Lima) recorded 13 saves in her 60 minutes of work as
she and the rest of the Crusader defense limited Lycoming (1-4) to
just two first-half goals.
Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union
Academy) was one of those key contributors on defense,
scooping up eight ground balls and causing two turnovers.
The Warriors actually jumped out to the early 1-0 lead on a goal
less than five minutes into the game. SU responded with a stretch
of three unanswered goals from Wright,
Bauer and Derstine, to grab the
3-1 lead with 16:10 left in the half.
Lycoming briefly cut it to 3-2 before the Crusaders fired off
four goals in just over four minutes to take a 7-2 halftime
lead.
Two early second-half goals made it 9-2 and Emily
Walsh's (Ringwood, N.J./DePaul Catholic) goal at the
10:44 marked the final SU score of the afternoon as she upped
SU's lead to nine (14-5).
