SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse
team edged Lebanon Valley 8-7 to remain a perfect 3-0 at home and
4-1 overall. During a game in which neither team led by more than
two goals, it was the Crusaders who used two fourth-quarter scores
to come away with the win.
Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and
Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored two
goals apiece while Austen Lein (New Vernon,
N.J./Madison) chipped in two assists and one goal. SU
(4-1) took 44 shots to the Flying Dutchmen's 22 and won 13 of
19 faceoffs.
Goalies Blake Middendorf (Wayne, Pa./Radnor)
and Anthony Maiorella (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain
Lakes) each played 30 minutes with Maiorella picking up
the win after playing the final two quarters during which SU went
ahead for good.
After Lebanon Valley took a 1-0 lead, the Crusaders put together
back-to-back goals from Dustin Breakey (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Brogan to go up 2-1 with 4:15
left in the opening quarter.
The Flying Dutchmen (2-3) briefly tied it at two before SU
closed out the half with two goals in the final 60 seconds for a
4-2 lead.
Lebanon Valley out-scored Susquehanna 3-2 in the second quarter
to make it a one-goal game, 6-5, at the midway point.
The Flying Dutchmen's C.J. Adams accounted for the lone
score of third quarter which knotted the game at six-all.
The Crusaders' Fritts and Matt Weiner (Bound
Brook, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) combined for
consecutive goals to hand their team an 8-6 advantage with 8:03 to
play. The SU defense held Lebanon Valley to just one more goal
which came at the 5:20 mark, and then proceeded to shut out the
Flying Dutchmen for the remaining minutes to secure the win.
