SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team could not hang on to a one-goal halftime lead and ultimately fell 15-11 to visiting Scranton in SU's Landmark Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon.

The Crusaders (7-5, 0-1) led 8-7 at halftime but were outscored by the Royals (8-3, 2-0) by an 8-3 margin over the final 30 minutes of action.

Three players had multi-goal efforts for SU, led by Michelle McGinniss's (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) four scores. The freshman also added an assist.

Susquehanna goalie Katelyn Brower (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex), making her third-consecutive start of the season, tallied 11 saves, with six in the final half.

The Crusaders were able to jump out to an early, 2-0 lead thanks to scores from Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS) and Ally Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) less than three minutes into the game.

The teams traded goals until a 3-0 run from Scranton made it 5-4 in favor of the Royals with 12:52 on the clock. Susquehanna put together two more stretches of back-to-back goals, however, to take the 8-7 lead at the midway point of the game.

Scranton's offense came out strong in the second half. The Royals scored the first two goals of the game to regain the 9-8 lead and then proceeded to put together a stretch of six unanswered goals that made it 15-9 with only 3:18 to play.

The Crusaders did score the final two goals of the game but it was too little too late as Scranton held on for the 15-11 victory.

Next game: Saturday, April 16 at Catholic – 12 p.m.
