SCRANTON, Pa. – A solid performance on both ends of the
field from the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team gave the
Crusaders a 9-5 win at Scranton on Saturday afternoon. The victory
was SU's first Landmark win of the season and marked the
team's second-straight victory.
With the win, Susquehanna improved its overall record to 7-5 and
1-2 in conference play.
The Crusaders gave up just five goals, including none in the first
quarter and only one in the final quarter. Goalie Jordan
Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) recorded 12 saves with
eight coming in the opening half.
Offensively, SU was led by Dustin Breakey's
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) four goals.
Freshman Billy Spack (Arlington, Va./Yorktown)
chipped in two goals and an assist while Luke
Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) recorded a
game-high four assists to go along with one goal.
Susquehanna netted two first-quarter goals less than two minutes
apart. Spack got the scoring started with 8:55 on the clock, and
with 7:35 remaining in the quarter, Breakey netted his first goal
of the afternoon to make it 2-0.
Breakey again found the back of the net less than midway through
the second quarter before the Royals (5-7, 1-2) scored back-to-back
goals to quickly cut SU's lead to 3-2.
The Crusaders ended the half with two unanswered scores of their
own, though, to take a 5-2 advantage at halftime.
Each team scored twice in the third quarter as SU maintained a
three-goal lead (7-4) heading into the final period. Breakey
provided his team two insurance goals less than 30 seconds apart in
the fourth quarter as SU went ahead by a game-high five goals (9-4)
and went on to the eventual 9-5 victory.
