FROSTBURG, Md. – Susquehanna senior women's lacrosse
player Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS)
set a career milestone as she scored her 100 and 101st
career collegiate goals in SU's 13-10 win at Frostburg State.
The win was the Crusaders' fifth-straight victory and
improved their season record to 6-3.
The SU offense was also aided in large part to Erin
Dyer's (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell)
five-goal, two-assist performance. Lindsey
Derstine (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh)
chipped in two goals and two assists, while freshman
Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph)
contributed two scores. McGinniss also tied for the game high with
four caused turnovers.
Goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye
Falls-Lima) tallied eight saves on the day and the rest of
the defensive unit limited Frostburg State (4-8) to just 29 shots
and four first-half goals. The sophomore also aided her own cause
with four caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
The first half featured 12 goals with eight of those scored by the
Crusaders. Back-to-back Dyer goals made it 2-1
after just seven minutes of play and Susquehanna closed out the
final eight minutes with five unanswered goals that made it
8-4.
The teams traded scores for the majority of the final 30 minutes,
but thanks to that four-goal halftime cushion, SU was able to
withstand six Bobcats goals in the final half.
Derstine and McGinniss teamed up
on consecutive goals to make it 10-6 and Wright
provided an insurance goal with 2:10 to play that made it 13-8.
Frostburg State scored twice in the final 60 seconds but it was
too little too late as the Crusaders extended their win streak to
five.
