TOWSON, Md. – Normally a 17-goal performance would add up
to a win, but unfortunately for the Susquehanna women's
lacrosse team, 17 goals were not enough to overtake Goucher, as the
Gophers defeated the Crusaders 25-17 in Towson.
SU (7-7, 0-3) saw freshman Michelle McGinniss (Randolph,
N.J./Randolph) score a career-high six goals as she was
one of five players with a multi-goal game. McGinniss also added
two assists for an eight-point outing. Erin Dyer (West
Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) added a hat trick to go
along with her two assists.
Goucher (7-7, 1-3) grabbed its first conference win of the season
thanks in part to eight goals from Hannah Khin. The Gophers also
took 42 shots to the Crusaders' 31 and connected on six of
eight free position shots.
SU goalie Katelyn Brower (North Caldwell, N.J./West
Essex) made 13 saves and played all 60 minutes.
Five minutes into the game, Susquehanna led 3-1 thanks to
back-to-back-to-back goals from three different players.
Goucher, however, then scored 13 of the next 15 goals, including a
run of nine unanswered goals, to go up 14-5 with 1:28 to play in
the first half.
The Crusaders rallied to net an impressive three goals in the final
50 seconds to make it 14-8 at halftime.
SU made it a three-goal game (15-12) thanks to a 3-0 run seven
minutes into the final half. Goucher netted four straight of its
own, though, to regain a 19-12 advantage.
From that point on, the squads traded goals and time expired before
Susquehanna could put together one final rally.
