SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University
women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-11 decision to the
visitors from Drew University at Sassafras Fields on Senior
Day.
SU (7-8, 0-4) fell behind, 4-0, 12 minutes into the game before
netting its first goal against Drew (10-7, 3-1) but could never get
within three goals of the Rangers. On two different occasions, SU
brought the score to 9-6 and 11-8, but that was as far as the
comebacks would go.
After Drew made the score 12-8, with 19 minutes left in the game,
the Rangers went on a 9-3 run to end the contest and the Crusaders
season.
SU's Junior Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James
Caldwell) and sophomore Lindsey Derstine
(Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led the way for the
Crusaders with five points each. Dyer scored four goals and handed
out an assist, while Derstine had a hat trick and dished out two
assists.
Freshman Michelle McGinniss (Randolph,
N.J./Randolph) also netted a hat trick for SU and scooped
up four groundballs, won three draw controls and caused three
turnovers.
Crusaders senior Sarah Wright (Princeton.N.J./Princeton
HS) won seven draws, scooped up three groundballs and
caused a turnover.
Freshman Katelyn Brower (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) suffered
the loss in goal but stopped 12 shots in all 60 minutes of
action.
