BALTIMORE, Md. – Susquehanna's football team endured a
long afternoon as Johns Hopkins rushed for six touchdowns and
returned two interceptions for scores as the Blue Jays beat the
Crusaders 56-7 at Homewood Field in the opening Centennial
Conference game for both teams.
The Blue Jays' Nick Fazio and Jonathan Riguad both rushed
for three touchdowns apiece as the Blue Jays out gained the
Crusaders 269 yards to 66 yards on the ground.
JHU linebacker Ryan Piatek picked off two Crusader passes,
including a 34-yard return for a touchdown.
For Susquehanna, senior quarterback Rich Palazzi
(Newfoundland, Pa. / Wallenpaupack) went 7-for-17 for 67
yards.
Greg Tellish (Mount Airy, Md. / South Carroll)
rushed for 44 yards on 15 attempts for the Crusaders. Duke
Hyacinthe (Maplewood, N.J. / Saint Peter's Prep)
rushed for 22 yards on six carries.
In the receiving game, senior Mike Ritter (Selinsgrove,
Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) caught four passes for 39
yards.
Cornerback Jalon Scott (Albany, N.Y. / Albany)
picked off JHU quarterback Hewitt Tomlin in the first quarter and
Will Dyson (Hawley, Pa. / Wallenpaupack) recorded
another SU interception off Hopkins QB Robbie Matey for a 47 yard
score to finally put SU on the board with 12:27 remaining in the
game. That marked the Crusaders only score.
Trevor Terpening (Mount Airy, Md. / South
Carroll) recorded 11 tackles on defense. Jesse
Eggerton (Montoursville, Pa. / Loyalsock Twp. ) chipped in
eight tackles and Dyson and Jack McCarty
(Westminster, Md. / South Carroll ) had seven tackles
apiece.
Centennial Conference play continues for Susquehanna next
weekend as the Crusaders host Dickinson in a Homecoming matchup on
Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
