LOYALSOCK TWP., Pa. – Playing away from James W. Garrett Sports Complex for the first time this season, Susquehanna's women's tennis defeated Lycoming 5-4 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
In singles action, senior Julia Lerner (Arlington, Va. / Washington-Lee) defeated Megan Gardner 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4. Freshman Shelby O'Riley (Ware, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) beat Dani Nazaruk (6-2, 6-1), and junior Ellen Pulsinelle (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) defeated Abbey Smith (6-3, 6-0).
In doubles competition, the Crusaders (2-0) were lead by the duo of junior Abby Hess (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) and O'Riley, as they won over Lycoming's (0-2) Zangara and Shannon Sheridan 8-5.
Sophomore Christine Bender (Amityville, N.Y. / Long Island Lutheran) and freshman Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station, N.J. / Somerville) defeated Ellen Phillips and Smith 8-4.
The Crusaders look to remain unbeaten as they host Wilkes on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 12:00 p.m.
