Volleyball Splits Opening Day at Haverford Tourney

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Susquehanna's volleyball squad earned a hard-fought split on the opening day of the Haverford Tournament on Saturday.

The Crusaders (1-1) fell 3-0 to defending ECAC champion Bethany before rebounding to rally from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Stevens Tech 3-2 in their second match of the day.

Against Bethany, Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led the way with nine kills while chipping in six digs. Also adding six digs was Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor), who had a team-high 23 assists in the match.

In the five-set match against Stevens, Carson again led the way with a 15-kill effort. Joining her double figures was Natalie Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill), who had 10 kills to her credit.

St. Angelo racked up 48 assists in the victory to go along with 10 digs for a double-double, the team's first of the young season. Sophomore Amanda Miles (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added 20 digs of her own, after recording eight against Bethany.

SU will face Coast Guard and Bluffton on Sunday, the final day of the tournament. The first match is scheduled for 10 a.m.
