SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team could not find an answer against Scranton, falling 91-57 on Friday night in Selinsgrove.

The Royals (11-6, 6-0) put together a 54-point first half that made a comeback a near impossibility for the Crusaders (4-13, 1-5).

Just one player netted double figures for SU in Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa./Wallenpaupack), who had 13 to go along with a team-best seven rebounds, six of which were on the offensive glass.

Turnovers proved costly for SU, as their 23 turnovers led to 29 Scranton points. The Royals also held a 28-14 edge in points in the paint.

The Crusaders and Royals swapped leads with SU holding a 15-13 advantage at the 14:29 mark thanks to a Korey McCaffrey (Millheim, Pa./Penns Valley Area) three-pointer. McCaffrey finished with nine points, three boards, two assists and one steal.

Unfortunately for SU, that bucket was followed by a 27-4 Scranton run that handed a 40-19 lead to the Royals and burned 10 minutes off the clock.

Susquehanna was able to put 10 points on the board in the closing 4:37 of play, but Scranton scored 14 of its own to take the 54-29 halftime lead.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Scranton led by 33 points, 66-33,  and a Sidney Jaques trey at 13:10 upped that lead to 34 (71-37).

The Crusaders were able to cut the lead to fewer than 30 points just once in the final 11 minutes and ultimately fell by the 34-point margin (91-57). Scranton's Meredith Mesaris finished with a game-high 27 points for the Royals.

SU hosts Moravian tomorrow at 4 p.m.
