SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior forward Laura Buriak (Salem, Va. / Salem) scored an early first half goal and this proved to be enough offense for Susquehanna's women's soccer team who beat non-conference opponent Alfred 1-0 on a chilly Thursday evening.

Buriak took a feed from senior midfielder Megan Stevens (Pipersville, Pa. / Palisades), went on a breakaway and finished with a low, left side shot to give the Crusaders (4-6-2) the lead in the ninth minute of the match.

SU couldn't find the back of the net but controlled the rest of the match, outshooting Alfred (6-7-0) 27-2.

Buriak led all players with eight shots and Stevens registered five, all being on goal. Nine different players recorded a shot for the Crusaders, who also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

SU hosts conference opponent Goucher on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m. Six members of the squad will be honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day.
