SELINSGROVE, Pa. – It seemed as if the Susquehanna women's soccer team's 1-0 lead would hold up but Goucher scored two goals in the final 20 minutes of the game to hand SU a 2-1 home loss on Senior Day.
The Crusaders (4-7-2, 0-2-2) led from the 24th minutes until the 70th but two late Goucher (11-2-0, 2-2-0) goals resulted in a 2-1 SU loss.
Goalie Rachel Norbuts (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) faced 10 shots on goal and stopped eight of them in her 90 minutes of action. SU's offense took just seven shots to the Gophers' 15 with two from both Alexandra Mason (Stratham, N.H./Portsmouth Christian Academy) and Kelly Bassett (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley).
SU got on the board first thanks to a Tara Brancato (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) goal 23:35 into the game off an assist from Mason, all of which got started following a Goucher foul in the far corner of the field.
That 1-0 score stood until halftime despite nearly equal shots from both teams. SU finished with five in the half and Goucher had six, half of which were on goal. Norbuts made stops on three shots, however, to help keep it 1-0 at halftime.
The Crusaders were able to hold the 1-0 lead 25 minutes into the second half but Goucher scored at the 69:58 mark and again in the 76th minutes on a Sherlanda Buskey goal which proved to be the game winner.
The Crusaders wrap-up the regular season with a three-game road trip beginning on Oct. 16 with a 4 p.m. game at Landmark Conference opponent Juniata.
