HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Ryan Donlevie (Strathan,
N.H./Exeter) broke a 1-1 tie to help hand the Susquehanna
men's soccer team to a 2-1 Landmark Conference win at Juniata
on Wednesday afternoon.
While the teams combined for 24 shots with 15 from SU (12-2-0,
4-1-0), the goalies racked up only four saves between them as shots
on goal were at a premium. Crusader goalie Matt Salsman
(Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) finished with two of
those saves.
The first half hour of the game was scoreless until Andrew
Murphy (Natick, Mass./Natick) found the foot of
Brandon Kates (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East)
who knocked it into the goal for the 1-0 Susquehanna lead.
The teams went into halftime with SU still up 1-0 but just 50
seconds after re-taking the field for the second half,
Juniata's Nick Stone-Weiss scored his squad's first
goal of the afternoon to knot the game at one-all.
For the next 23 minutes it remained knotted at one until Donlevie
snapped the tie with 68:23 on the clock to hand a one-goal lead
back to the Crusaders.
SU was able to keep the Eagles' scoring chances at a premium
for the final 22 minutes of the game; in fact, Juniata (8-7-0,
1-4-0) took just two shots over that span, allowing SU to clinch
the critical conference victory.
The men return to action on Saturday as they travel to USMMA on
Saturday for an 11 a.m. game. It marks the second-to-last
regular-season conference game for the Crusaders.
