SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Susquehanna's field hockey team dropped a close non-conference match to William Paterson on Saturday, losing to the Pioneers 2-1 at Sassfras Field.
The Crusaders (5-11) outshot William Paterson (7-10) 23-11 but could only find the back of the cage once.
The Pioneers got on the board early, scoring in the second minute to jump ahead 1-0. William Paterson added another first half tally in the 25th minute to take a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
Despite trailing at the half, SU outshot the Pioneers 17-5 and held the edge in corners 7-1 in the opening period.
The Crusaders trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the 52nd minute when senior midfielder Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa. / Central Bucks South) wove through the Pioneer defense and lofted a backhanded shot into the cage for her seventh goal of the season.
Bradley led all players with a game-high nine shots, including six on goal. Senior Tiffany Collins (Hanover, Md. / Meade) came off the bench and fired four shots, with two being on target.
Goalkeeper Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern) made five saves in goal for SU.
The Crusaders play their final non-conference game of the season, traveling to York (Pa.) on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
