SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Win number 14 for the men's soccer
team came in the form a 3-0 shutout of King's (Pa.) on
Tuesday night at Sassafras Field.
The Crusaders (14-2-0) picked up not just their 14th
victory of the fall but also shut out their eighth opponent of the
season and second in a row.
Andrew Murphy (Natick, Mass./Natick) accounted for
two of the three SU goals and David Trank (Mendham,
N.J./Mendham) provided assists on the first and final
goals of the evening.
Goalie Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove
Area) saw limited action as the Monarchs (10-5-1) took
only eight shots all night and just three were on goal, all of
which came in the second half.
John Arnold (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was
able to put the Crusaders on the board at the 23:23 mark and almost
exactly nine minutes later, Daniel Sosa (Columbia, Pa./York
Catholic) passed the ball from the far side of the field
to Murphy who was able to knock the ball past the King's
goalie for a sudden, 2-0 SU advantage.
Shots were at a premium for both teams for the remaining 12 minutes
of the period but Susquehanna held King's without a shot on
goal for the entire half to preserve that 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Monarchs came out aggressive to start the second half, putting
two quick shots on goal. However, King's failed to chip away
at the 2-0 SU lead and Murphy's second goal of the night with
just 3:30 left in the game iced the victory for Susquehanna.
The Crusaders conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m.
conference match at Moravian with tournament seedings to be
determined following the conclusion of Saturday's league
games.
