YORK, Pa. – Susquehanna's offense never found its
rhythm and the field hockey team fell 7-0 at York (Pa.) on
Wednesday afternoon.
SU (5-12) was blanked for just the fourth time in 17 games this
season and gave up a season-high seven goals in the loss to the
Spartans (10-7). Six of those goals came in the second half.
Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South)
and Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa./Gettysburg
Area) were the lone Crusaders with multiple shots as each
took two and combined for four of their team's six shots in
the game.
Goalie Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa./Northern)
played all but 17 minutes of the game and made five saves.
Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) played the
final 16:44 of the match and had two stops.
The teams battled to a scoreless game until under the two-minute
mark of the first half when Jayme Goldkind struck on a tipped shot
at the top of the circle. That marked the lone score of the period,
as well as the final shot for either team in that half, and SU
headed into the halftime break down by just one.
Unfortunately Goldkind struck three straight times in the second
half, including a goal after just four minutes of play that made it
2-0. She then fired off two shots in a four-minute span, both of
which turned into goals and resulted in a 4-0 Spartans lead.
Bradley recorded the Crusaders' first shot of the half with
50:14 on the clock but Ashton Burk added an unassisted score with
18 minutes to play that put the Crusaders in a 5-0 hole. SU did not
record a shot for the final 19 minutes and went down 7-0 on two
York goals in the final six minutes of the contest.
The Crusaders close out their regular season on Saturday with a
home game against Landmark Conference opponent Moravian at 1 p.m.
With a win, SU qualifies for the conference tournament. The team
will also honor its senior members prior to the start of the
game.
