GEORGETOWN, Texas – Day one of the Southwestern (Texas)
Tournament resulted in two losses for the Susquehanna women's
volleyball team as they took one arguably some of its toughest
competition of the season.
SU (16-19) fell in straight sets to both opponents. Against Austin
(20-12), they dropped 14-25, 21-25 and 25-27 sets and fell in three
to Texas-Dallas (24-12) by scores of 18-25, 18-25, 18-25.
Against the Kangaroos, the team did hit for a .248 attack
percentage but still fell in straight sets. In the match,
Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led
her squad with 13 kills, six assists and seven digs.
Adding nine kills was Jessica Holm (Montvale, N.J./Pascack
Hills) and Julia Caruso (Collegeville,
Pa./Perkiomen Valley) chipped in 24 assist and seven digs.
Defensively, Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua
Area) picked up 15 digs and led SU with her three service
aces.
The Comets were also able to win in three sets against the
Crusaders. Carson again led Susquehanna in kills with seven but had
only five digs and zero blocks. She did, however, add 12 assists,
as did Caruso. Paluck had 16 assists but as a team, SU finished
with only two block assists.
The Crusaders play in two more matches on Saturday to wrap-up their
trip to Texas. SU will face Hardin-Simmons to open the day and
conclude the afternoon with a match against host Southwestern.
