SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's field hockey team earned a Landmark Conference playoff berth by defeating Moravian 2-0 Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders celebrated Senior Day.
The Crusaders (6-12, 3-3) took the lead in the 25th minute when senior Nicole Solino (Madison, N.J. / Madison) redirected a shot by Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) to put SU up 1-0.
SU took the lead into intermission, outshooting the Greyhounds (8-9, 2-4) 6-5 and holding the edge in penalty corners, 4-2.
Sophomore Brodie Ercole (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) increased the SU lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute when she dribbled down the sideline and fired a far post shot that found the back of the cage.
SU outshot Moravian 14-5 in the second period and had 11 corners compared to four for the Greyhounds. Senior Ally Bradley (Jamison, Pa. / Central Bucks South) had a game-high nine shots.
Junior goalkeeper Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern) faced 10 shots and made seven saves for Susquehanna, recording her second shutout of the season.
Prior to the game, the Crusaders honored their seven senior members: Jillian Terry (North East, Md. / Mercy), Bradley, Tiffany Collins (Hanover, Md. / Meade), Mirissia Mekosh (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown), Solino, Gina Palazzi (Newfoundland, Pa. / Wallenpaupack Area) and Allison Abey (Ewing, N.J. / Ewing).
