SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team took on
Juniata in a mid-week Landmark Conference match and defeated the
Eagles 1-0, marking SU's first win against Juniata in four
years.
Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa./Gettysburg Area)
scored late in the game for the Crusaders (3-8, 1-2) off a penalty
corner pass from Alison Abey (Ewing,
N.J./Ewing) to hand SU the 1-0 lead. With just three
minutes left, Juniata could not put together a scoring threat, thus
sealing the 1-0 Susquehanna victory.
The last time SU defeated Juniata (6-5, 1-1) was almost exactly
four years ago when the Crusaders defeated the Eagles 2-1 at home
in double overtime on Oct. 7.
Susquehanna took only three shots all game to Juniata's 11
but all that mattered was SU was able to put one of shots in the
cage.
Crusader goalie Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry,
Pa./Northern) finished with four saves, two in each half,
and Susquehanna held an impressive 9-2 edge in penalty corners.
The first 67 minutes of the game were scoreless as neither team
could put together an offensive attack that translated into a goal.
The game seemed destined for overtime until Abey took her
squad's ninth penalty corner of the evening and found
Reichart at the top of the circle, who fired a hard shot past
Juniata goalie Janelle Howard for a 1-0 game.
The Crusaders hit the road to face Scranton on Saturday at 1
