SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The No. 13/15 Susquehanna men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 match to the University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals (9-0-1, 3-0-0) scored in the 20th minute of action when Patrick Daley chipped the ball over keeper Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) and Kevin Kozic finished to give Scranton the early 1-0 advantage.
The Crusaders (9-2-0, 2-1-0) had several great scoring opportunities in the opening half from sophomore midfielder David Trank (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and senior captain John Arnold (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg Area), who narrowly missed a goal on a diving header attempt.
The second period yielded no goals with both squads having scoring chances, but neither could capitalize. The match was played aggressively in the second half, with four yellow cards issued and 17 total fouls called.
Forward Patrick Fry (Denver, Colo. / Colorado Academy) led SU with three shots. Salsman made two saves in goal.
The match was played evenly statistically, with both teams recording ten shots. SU held the edge in corners, 7-1.
The Crusaders play at non-conference opponent Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. before hosting league foe Goucher on Saturday, Oct. 13 for Senior Day.
