SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After trailing early in the game, the Susquehanna women's soccer team could not rebound against Scranton, falling 4-0 at home in a Landmark Conference game.
The Royals struck early and went on to score twice in each half en route to the win over SU (3-6-2, 0-1-2).
Susquehanna was out-shot by a 10-1 margin but did hold Scranton (5-5-2, 2-0-0) to just one corner kick. Leah Gardiner (Portland, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) accounted for the lone Crusader shot.
The game started out on a down note for SU as an own goal just 2:41 into the action handed the Royals the early 1-0 lead.
Scranton kept the ball in the Crusaders' half of the field for the majority of the half with six shots in the period, including one at the 31:29 mark that Susquehanna goalie Rachel Norbuts (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) misplayed, allowing the Royals' Gianna Vitolo to collect the loose ball and put it into the back of the net for a 2-0 score.
Norbuts played the first half and notched one save. Cameron Weaver (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) played the final 45 minutes and picked up two saves.
The Royals were able to tack on two more goals in the second half, the first in the 53rd minute and the second 20 minutes later with 18 minutes to play.
The Crusaders, who are in the midst of a three-game homestand, remain at home to host Alfred on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
