SELINSGROVE, Pa. – While it was a game that started out close, the Susquehanna men's basketball team pulled away with a solid second half to grab a 74-58 win over visiting Goucher on Friday night in front of a packed Houts Gymnasium.

Susquehanna won its two regular-season match ups with Goucher, making for a season sweep of the Gophers while also handing SU its first win in three games.

SU (13-9, 7-5) outscored the Gophers (4-18, 1-11) by a 42-27 margin in the second half. In the end, four Crusaders reached double figures in scoring, led by 23 from Spenser Spencer (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside), who is now just seven points away from moving into a tie for fourth all-time in SU scoring history.

Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain), meanwhile, added 19 points and a game-best seven rebounds, while J.T. Wilson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) added 11 points and Mike Perillo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) had 10.

Goucher was able to shoot 48 percent from the floor but the Crusaders limited the Gophers to a 28.6 percent showing from three-point range.

Another big difference in the game came from turnovers, as 19 Goucher miscues translated into 18 SU points, while Susquehanna committed just nine turnovers all night.

The first half saw 10 lead changes and four tied scores. Spencer got the night started with a quick three but from there, it took five minutes for either side to take more than a three-point edge. SU went up by five on a Wilson layup with 14:25 on the clock and a Sellinger layup less than four minutes later made it a seven-point contest (20-13).

Ten minutes later, however, Goucher went on a 10-2 run to take a slim, 25-24 lead. For the remainder of the half, the lead swapped hands before the Crusaders ultimately took a 32-31 lead into halftime.

The second half was all SU as the team opened the period on an 8-2 run, with six points coming from Sellinger, to go up 40-33 with 16:49 to play.

Susquehanna took its first double-digit lead of the game on two Tony Seldon (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic) free throws that made it 45-35 at the 14:35 mark.

It remained a double-digit SU lead and the Crusaders took a game-high 18-point advantage with 37 seconds on the clock courtesy of a Perillo layup. The sophomore proceeded to cap off his team's scoring with two free throws with 20 seconds remaining.

The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow for a 4 p.m. game against Catholic. Saturday also marks Pepsi Day for the SU basketball programs and fans are encouraged to wear orange in support of an “Orange Crush” of Catholic.
