SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A solid, all-around effort from the
Susquehanna women's lacrosse team gave the Crusaders a 20-6
win over visiting Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday night. The victory
marked the fourth in a row for SU, the first time the team has been
4-0 under fourth-year head coach Laura Moan.
Eight different players picked up goals for Susquehanna (4-0), led
by a five-goal outing from Brynn Reid
(West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove). Emma Ehler
(Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Meredith Crane
(Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) both had three goals and one
assist each while Ally Bauer (Kinnelon,
N.J./Kinnelon) had a four-point evening (2g, 2a).
Goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honoeye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye
Falls-Lima) played all 60 minutes and picked up seven
saves as the SU defense limited the Saints (1-4) to just 20 shots
all game, compared to the 44 from the Susquehanna offense.
The Crusaders also dominated on draw controls, winning 19 of the 28
on the night.
After an early Bauer goal at the 28:21 mark of the first half,
Marymount rattled off back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with
23:52 on the clock.
From that point on, though, it was all SU. The Crusaders strung
together seven unanswered goals over a span of seven minutes to go
up 8-2. Over the remaining 16:50 of the half, Susquehanna proceeded
to out-score the Saints 5-3 to take a 13-5 halftime lead.
Marymount managed only one goal in the final 30 minutes of play and
were blanked for the final 26:47 of the game. The Crusaders ended
the contest on a 6-0 run of goals with scores from five different
players to clinch the 20-6 victory.
Susquehanna is on the road on Saturday, March 17 to take on
Alvernia at 12 p.m.
