SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's softball team split
Thursday's non-conference doubleheader with York (Pa.) by
winning game two 11-3 in five innings. The Crusaders dropped the
first contest 3-1.
In the night cap, SU (10-6) exploded for six runs in the bottom
of the fourth and eventually won due to the mercy rule.
Entering the fourth ahead 5-3, Lisa Finizio (Oakland,
N.J. / Indian Hills) ripped a triple and Larissa
Luu (Montandon, Pa. / Milton) drove Finizio in with an RBI
single.
After a pair of singles by Sam LaCoe (Clarks Summit, Pa.
/ Abington Heights) and Madison Clark (Blue
Springs, Mo. / Blue Springs), Brittany Devlin
(Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks East) stroked a two-run
single to put SU up 8-3.
Kathryn Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland
Valley) cracked a two-run triple to put the Crusaders up
10-3.
Stephanie Chlebove (Northampton, Pa. / Northampton
Area) smacked an RBI single to end the scoring onslaught
for the Crusaders.
Chlebove and K.Gilbert both finished with three RBI. Devlin and
Clark both registered two RBI in the victory. Finizio went 3-for-3
at the plate with two runs scored. As a team, the Crusaders pounded
out 13 hits.
Sarah Hoffman (Laceyville, Pa. / Wyalusing
Valley) earned her fifth win of the season, scattering
five hits and only allowing one earned run.
In game one, the Spartans (3-9) scored three runs in the top of
the second and went on to win 3-1.
Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock
North) pitched well in defeat, only allowing two earned
runs on six hits.
Clark picked up the RBI for SU in the game one loss.
Brianna Murphy (Hazlet, N.J. / Mater Dei) went
2-for-3 at the plate.
The Crusaders hit the road over the weekend, playing at Merchant
Marine on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
