SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Two late goals, including the ultimate
game winner from Luke
Delavan (Madison, N.J./Madison) with 75 seconds left
in the game, propelled the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team to
a 10-8 win over visiting Marywood on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was tied at eight-all with just 3:03 to play before
Delavan scored with 1:15 on the clock. Tim Pastore
(Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) added an insurance goal at the
54-second mark for the final score of 10-8.
The Crusaders (7-6) out-shot Marywood (6-5) by a 37-32 margin,
including a 21-17 edge in the second half. SU also came out on the
winning side in 14-of-20 face-offs.
Delavan finished the game with four goals while Austen
Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) added two, as did
Billy Spack (Arlington, Va./Yorktown). Five
players picked up one assist apiece. Goalie Jordan
Daney (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) racked up 13 saves
in his 60 minutes of action.
The game went back and forth with neither team taking a two-goal
lead until the closing minute of play. The game was knotted at
three-all with 5:25 left in the second quarter before Lein scored a
go-ahead goal to hand his team a 4-3 lead at halftime.
Marywood came out of halftime and proceeded to score back-to-back
goals to take a 5-4 lead with 13:04 still to play in the quarter.
SU out-scored the Pacers 3-2 over the remaining minutes of the
third quarter, however, to tie the game at 7-7 with just 15 minutes
left to play.
The Crusaders' Delavan scored the first goal of the quarter
before Marywood responded with a goal for an 8-8 game. Delavan then
proceeded to net his second-straight goal, and fourth of the game,
for a 9-8 Susquehanna lead, one the team did not relinquish.
SU remains home to host Scranton on Saturday at noon. The
team's 10 seniors will be recognized prior to the start of
the game.
