SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's softball team swept
Thursday's non-conference doubleheader with Wilkes by winning
game one 3-2 on a walk-off double and game two 12-2 in five
innings.
The Crusaders (15-8) won the first contest as junior shortstop
Larissa Luu (Montandon, Pa. / Milton) drove home
all three runs, including game-winning two run double.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when
Lauren Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland
Valley) singled up the middle and Luu drove her in with a
base knock to go up 1-0.
The Colonels (5-15) went up in the top half of the seventh 2-1
after scoring on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh, Alyssa Cantalini
(Kitchener, Ontario / St. David Catholic) reached on an
error by the third basemen to start the rally for the Crusaders.
L.Gilbert executed a bunt single that advanced pinch runner
Courtney Miller (Kendall Park, N.J. / South
Brunswick) to third. Two batters later, Luu cracked the
walk-off hit.
Luu and L.Gilbert both had two hits apiece. Kathryn
Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) ripped a
triple in the sixth for SU.
Alison Cullen (Branchburg, N.J. / Immaculata)
picked up her fifth win of the year, going all seven innings,
scattering seven hits and striking out a pair.
The night cap was all SU from the early going, as the Crusaders
scored three runs in the first, three in the second and five in the
third to glide to the victory 12-2.
Catcher Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks
East) went 2-for-2 with four RBI, including a
bases-clearing triple. Madison Clark (Blue Springs, Mo. /
Blue Springs) and Luu both recorded two RBI.
Brianna Murphy (Hazlet, N.J. / Mater Dei) and
Cantalini both went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock
North) earned her fifth win of the season, pitching four
innings while allowing only three hits and striking out six.
The Crusaders head to Huntingdon to play Landmark Conference
rival Juniata on Saturday, April 14 for a doubleheader starting at
1:00 p.m.
