MADISON, N.J. – Susquehanna's baseball team dropped
a pair of one-run contests at Landmark Conference opponent Drew on
Saturday. The Crusaders dropped game one 5-4 and game two 7-6.
In the early game, SU (13-17, 2-9) jumped out to a 2-0
lead in the first inning with a two-run single up the middle by
Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Twp.).
The Crusaders scored once more in the top of the second when
Jared Musilli (Branchville, N.J. / High Point
Regional) plated Mike Rucereto (Washington Twp.,
N.J. / Bergen Catholic) on a sacrifice fly to go ahead
3-0.
Drew (15-13, 6-5) scored on a wild pitch to make the game 3-1 in
the bottom of the second.
In the fourth, Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J. / Toms
River North) singled to right center and later scored on a
Musilli double down the right field line to increase the lead
4-1.
The Rangers scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to trim the
lead to 4-3 and scored two runs in the sixth to take the lead 5-4
and held on for the win.
The Crusaders had eight hits in game one and were led by
Rucereto who finished 2-for-3.
In the night cap, SU pounded out 13 hits but gave up three sixth
inning runs to the Rangers.
Drew scored four runs in the bottom of the second off of five
hits. Susquehanna responded with two runs in the top of the third
thanks in part to a homer by Ty Raubenstine
(Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin Area) and an RBI
single by Rieker.
The Crusaders took the lead 6-4 after plating four runs in the
top of the fourth. Dan Wing (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville
/ Catawba) cracked a three-run double to left center and
Rieker picked up another RBI base knock to right field.
The Rangers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth, 7-6,
off of three hits and three costly SU errors.
Offensively for SU, Raubenstine had three hits and Rieker,
Musilli and Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md. / Good
Council) all had two hits apiece.
SU closes out the series against Drew tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
