HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Susquehanna's softball team swept
Landmark Conference rival Juniata on Saturday afternoon. The
Crusaders exploded for 12 runs in game one, winning 12-4. SU won
game two 3-0.
In the early contest, SU (18-8, 5-1) scored twice in the top of
the second to go up 2-0. Madison Clark (Blue Springs, Mo. /
Blue Springs) picked up an RBI single and later scored on
a wild pitch.
Juniata (9-16, 1-7) tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the
fourth behind an RBI double and run-scoring single.
The Crusader bats exploded for seven runs in the top of the
fifth to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Brianna Murphy
(Hazlet, N.J. / Mater Dei) stole home and Brittany
Devlin (Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks East) smacked a
run-scoring single to right field.
Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Alyssa
Cantalini (Kitchener, Ontario / St. David Catholic
Secondary) smashed a grand slam to complete the offensive
onslaught in the fifth.
For good measure, Susquehanna added three more runs in the top
of the seventh. Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J. / Indian
Hills) picked up two RBI with a single up the middle and
Devlin stroked a run-scoring single through the left side to cap
off the scoring for the Crusaders.
SU pounded out 13 hits in the first game, led three by Devlin
and Cantalini. Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock
North) earned the win in the circle, her sixth of the
season. She pitched all seven innings, scattering eight hits and
allowing three earned runs.
In the night cap, Alison Cullen (Branchburg, N.J. /
Immaculata) pitched a four hit shutout and struck out
three Eagles for her sixth win of the year.
SU scored one run in the first and second innings. Finizio
picked up an RBI on a suicide squeeze in the first and
Stephanie Chlebove (Northampton, Pa. /Northampton
Area) smacked a run scoring single to center in the
second.
Finizio smashed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning,
her first of the season and fourth of her career.
SU hosts Elizabethtown for a non-conference doubleheader on
Wednesday, April 18 at 3:00 p.m.
