SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's softball squad
dropped a pair of games to non-conference foe Elizabethtown on
Wednesday. The Crusaders lost game one 7-2 and fell 7-4 in the
night cap, which went 10 innings.
In game one, the Crusaders (18-10) gave up one run in each of
the first four innings. The Blue Jays (21-11) scored three runs in
the top of the fifth to break the game open and go ahead 7-0.
SU got on the board during the bottom of the seventh as
Lauren Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland
Valley) cracked an RBI triple to right center and later
scored on a throwing error by the catcher to cut the hole to 7-2.
But a strike out with runners on second and third ended the
scoring rally for SU.
L. Gilbert finished with a pair of triples in the contest.
Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J. / Indian Hills) went
3-for-4 including her 200th career hit, a single up the
middle in the first inning.
In the night cap, the Crusaders gave up four runs in the top of
the tenth inning and ultimately fell to the Blue Jays.
SU fell behind 2-0 in the third inning but tied the game at 2-2
in the bottom of the seventh to force the game to extras.
Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa. / Central Bucks
East) singled up the middle and advanced to second on a
sacrifice bunt. Bridget Rafter (Highlands, N.J. / Henry
Hudson Regional) brought in the game-tying run with a
single.
Elizabethtown went ahead 3-2 in the eighth but the Crusaders
rallied once more, as L.Gilbert scored the tying run.
After surrendering four runs in the tenth, Alyssa
Cantanlini (Kitchener, Ontario / St. David Catholic)
picked up an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4, but the Blue
Jays held on for the victory.
Devlin went 3-for-5 in game two. Morgan Lewis (Newtown,
Pa. / Council Rock North) suffered the defeat, pitching
nine innings while giving up three earned runs.
The Crusaders host Landmark Conference rival Drew on Saturday,
April 21 for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
