SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse
team held off a 10-goal second-half performance from vesting
McDaniel to win 16-12 and capture its 13th victory of
the season. The Crusaders used 13 goals in the opening half to help
prevent the Green Terror from completing the comeback.
Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), Ally
Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Michelle
McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) all picked up hat
tricks with Bauer and Ehler also adding one assist apiece.
McDaniel (6-11) actually out-shot SU (13-1) 38-31 and while
Susquehanna had 16 draw controls to the Green Terror's 15,
McDaniel had 10 draw controls in the second half.
Starting goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls,
N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) played the first 57-plus minutes
of the game and racked up 16 saves in the process.
The game started out all SU as the team jumped out to an 8-0 lead
after less than 20 minutes of play in the half. McDaniel netted
back-to-back goals but the Crusaders rattled off five more
unanswered goals over the final 6:37 to go into the break up
13-2.
The second half was a different story as McDaniel out-scored
Susquehanna 10-3. The Green Terror put together three-goal and
five-goal stretches and scored two goals in the final 1:40 for the
16-12 game. Fortunately for SU, time ran out on McDaniel and the
Crusaders grabbed the win.
Susquehanna closes out the regular season with a 1 p.m. Landmark
Conference game at Drew on Saturday afternoon.
