SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 13-goal first half helped propel the
Susquehanna women's lacrosse team to an 18-9 win over
visiting Frostburg State and in the process, ran its unbeaten
streak to 10 straight. The Crusaders improve to 10-0 on the season,
the best start in program history.
Seven players netted at least two goals with three players picking
up hat tricks. Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham)
led the way with a three-goal and two-assist outing for SU (10-0).
Ally Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and
Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) also
added three goals apiece with Lindsey Derstine
(Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) picking up two assists
and scoring two goals.
As a team, Susquehanna doubled up the Bobcats (4-8) in shots
(36-18) and won an impressive 22 of 29 draw controls, including 18
in the first half alone. The Crusader defense also amassed eight
caused turnovers, led by two from Marra Landino
(Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy).
The game started on a 5-0 Susquehanna run with goals from five
different players in less than four minutes of play. Following a
Frostburg State goal at 24:54, SU proceeded to rattle off another
run of five unanswered goals and eventually went into the break up
13-5.
The Crusaders netted three of the first four goals of the second
half to lead by 10 (16-6) and limited the Bobcats to three goals in
the final 12:41 of play to seal the 18-9 victory.
The women open Landmark Conference play on Thursday with a 6 p.m.
game at Scranton.
