SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse
team dominated from start to finish in its Landmark Conference
semifinal match-up with Drew and advanced to the Championship game
with an 18-5 win over the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders (15-1), who were playing in their first-ever
Landmark semifinal game, will now play in their first-ever
championship game when they play No. 1 seed Catholic on Saturday in
Washington, D.C. Game time is TBA.
The Crusaders played solidly on both ends of the field.
Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) led
the offensive attack with a five-goal performance to go along with
one assist. Lindsey Derstine (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern
Lehigh) chipped in four goals and an assist and three
other players scored at least two goals.
In goal, Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye
Falls-Lima) made some highlight-reel saves and finished
the game with 11 stops while surrendering only five goals.
SU had 20 more shots than did Drew (42-22) and forced 19 Rangers
turnovers while committing just 14 of its own.
Susquehanna jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after less than 10
minutes of action. The Rangers (8-9) were able to net a goal with
18:56 on the clock to make it 3-1 but the Susquehanna defense held
Drew off the scoreboard for the next 14 minutes while upping its
lead to 10-1 over that span.
Drew scored back-to-back goals to make it a 10-3 contest before
the Crusaders closed out the half with two unanswered goals of
their own to take a 13-3 advantage into halftime.
SU gave up only two second-half goals while scoring five of its
own, including the first three of the period. Three players
accounted for the five goals with the final two coming from
Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove).
