READING, Pa. – Susquehanna's field hockey squad won
back-to-back games to open the 2012 campaign after defeating
non-conference opponent Albright 3-1 on Saturday afternoon behind
three goals from freshman members.
The Crusaders (2-0) trailed 1-0 at halftime to the Lions after
an early goal off a penalty corner.
Albright (0-1) outshot SU 8-6 in the opening session and held
the advantage in penalty corners, 6-2.
But SU came firing out of the gates to begin the second half as
freshman Katherine Millet (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth
Academy) scored her first collegiate goal only 11 ticks
into the period.
At the 48:44 mark, another rookie, this time Emily Reich
(Livingston, N.J. / Livingston), scored her second goal of
the year to give the Crusaders their first lead of the afternoon
2-1. Millet tacked on her second score of the game off a feed from
senior Nicole Solino (Madison, N.J./
Madison) to give SU a 3-1 cushion.
The Crusaders outshot Albright 10-2 in the second half. Junior
keeper Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern)
made three stops in goal and faced ten shots from the Lions. This
marks the third consecutive season that SU has opened up the year
