SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior back Brandon Kates
(Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) scored two goals
and assisted on another as Susquehanna's men's soccer
team defeated Penn State Harrisburg 4-1 on Saturday evening.
The Crusaders (2-0) got off to a fast start as junior forward
Andrew Hayes (Hoboken, N.J. / St. Peter's
Prep) scored off a feed from Kates to put SU up 1-0 less
than ten minutes into the opening half.
Kates found the back of the net for his first goal in the
23rd minute off a pass from junior midfielder
John Boylan (Hazlet, N.J. / St. John Vianney).
The Nittany Lions (0-2) clawed back at the end of the half,
scoring off a corner kick and went into intermission trailing
2-1.
The Crusaders outshot Penn State 9-2 in the first and had a 4-1
corner kick advantage.
Kates opened up the second period scoring with a header in the
53rd minute to push the Crusader lead to 3-1.
Sophomore transfer Gannon Keller (Selinsgrove, Pa. /
Selinsgrove Area / Bloomsburg) scored in his second
consecutive game to send the lead to 4-1. Keller scored the
double-overtime winner against Grove City last night.
This is the second straight 2-0 start for the Crusaders as they
defeated Bethany (W.V.) and Gettysburg to open up last year.
SU hosts Lycoming on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. for the
Battle of the Boot.
