Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior back Brandon Kates (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) scored two goals and assisted on another as Susquehanna's men's soccer team defeated Penn State Harrisburg 4-1 on Saturday evening.

The Crusaders (2-0) got off to a fast start as junior forward Andrew Hayes (Hoboken, N.J. / St. Peter's Prep) scored off a feed from Kates to put SU up 1-0 less than ten minutes into the opening half.

Kates found the back of the net for his first goal in the 23rd minute off a pass from junior midfielder John Boylan (Hazlet, N.J. / St. John Vianney).

The Nittany Lions (0-2) clawed back at the end of the half, scoring off a corner kick and went into intermission trailing 2-1.

The Crusaders outshot Penn State 9-2 in the first and had a 4-1 corner kick advantage.

Kates opened up the second period scoring with a header in the 53rd minute to push the Crusader lead to 3-1.

Sophomore transfer Gannon Keller (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area / Bloomsburg) scored in his second consecutive game to send the lead to 4-1. Keller scored the double-overtime winner against Grove City last night.

This is the second straight 2-0 start for the Crusaders as they defeated Bethany (W.V.) and Gettysburg to open up last year.

SU hosts Lycoming on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. for the Battle of the Boot.
