SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Opening up the second half with a pair of goals seconds apart, Susquehanna's men's soccer team defeated Drew 3-0 in their first Landmark Conference match of 2012 on Saturday.
The Crusaders (7-1, 1-0) began the second period in furious fashion, netting goals separated by only 23 seconds.
At 49:32, junior Patrick Fry (Denver, Colo. / Colorado Academy) found sophomore David Trank (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) who rifled the shot in the back of the net.
Then at 49:55, Fry and sophomore Joe DeLuca (Freehold, N.J. / St. John Vianney) broke out on a two-on-one with DeLuca feeding Fry as the Crusaders took the 3-0 lead less than six minutes into the half.
SU began the game with a score in the 13th minute of play, as junior John Boylan (Hazlet, N.J. / St. John Vianney) ripped an upper corner shot from 10 yards out after taking a feed from senior captain John Arnold (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg Area).
Senior goalkeeper Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) made three saves for the Crusaders.
SU outshot the Rangers 16-9 and held a 6-1 corner kick advantage. The match was aggressively played throughout with 29 total fouls called and five yellow cards issued.
The Crusaders host non-conference opponent Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
