SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Leading 17-7 at halftime, the Susquehanna football team seemed primed to come out on top of Gettysburg for the second-straight season but a 28-point showing from the Bullets in the second half resulted in a 35-24 SU loss at home.

Gettysburg (4-0, 3-0) had 82 offensive plays to the Crusaders' 63 and finished with 411 yards on offense. Susquehanna (1-3, 0-3), meanwhile, had 273 offensive yards with just 34 net yards on the ground.

Wide linebacker Jack McCarty (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) was the human highlight reel for SU, however, as finished the day with nine tackles, one fumble recovery and an impressive career-high three interceptions. Aaron Inch (Selinsgrove, Pa./Line Mountain/Delaware Valley) provided 12 tackles for the Crusaders while Adrian Bernard (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pius X) added 11.

Quarterback Taylor Kolmer (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville), making his first-ever collegiate start, went 17-of-29 for 202 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions but was also sacked four times.

Mike Ritter (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) reeled in six catches for 98 yards while Denzell Walker (Baltimore, Md./McDonough School) accounted for the lone receiving touchdown on the afternoon on one of his three catches in the game. On the ground, Connor McGrath (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional/Assumption) picked up 61 yards on 16 carries.

Jalon Scott (Albany, N.Y./Albany HS) opened the game with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play of the afternoon as SU took a 7-0 lead less than 15 seconds into the action.

Kolmer added a one-yard run less than four minutes later on a six-play, 32-yard drive that made it 14-0. Gettysburg's Eddie Hutchins added a two-yard run with 4:25 left in the half to cut SU's lead to a touchdown (14-7).

Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area), who was handling both the punting and kicking duties, countered though with a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the half for a 17-7 Crusader halftime lead.

Unfortunately halftime seemed to ruin any SU momentum as Gettysburg put four unanswered touchdowns on the board including one with only four minutes remaining in the game to effectively put the lead out of reach.

Walker was able to end the game with a Susquehanna score, however, by connecting with Kolmer for a 29-yard touchdown pass to make it a final 35-24 score.

Susquehanna remains at home next weekend as the team plays host to Muhlenberg at 1 p.m. on Homecoming Weekend. The 2012 SU Sports Hall of Fame Class will be honored at halftime.
