SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's field hockey squad
dropped a tough 3-2 decision to No. 8 Catholic Saturday afternoon
on Homecoming Weekend.
The Cardinals (6-3, 2-0) got on the board quickly, notching a
goal only 1:02 into the game.
But the Crusaders (2-8, 0-2) responded with the equalizer in the
32nd minute when sophomore forward Brodie Ercole
(Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) knocked in a rebound
after an Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa. / Gettysburg
Area) shot was saved.
Catholic took a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute and held
that advantage at intermission. The Cardinals outshot SU 17-5 in
the opening half and held a 6-1 edge in penalty corners.
The Cardinals jumped to a 3-1 lead in the 63rd
minute, cleaning up a rebound first saved by SU keeper
Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern).
SU got within one goal in the 65th minute when
freshman Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth
Academy) scored directly off a penalty corner by senior
Allison Abey (Ewing, N.J. / Ewing), but Catholic
held on for the league win.
Millett led SU with four shots and Ruth registered 15 saves on
31 total shots faced.
The Crusaders continue conference play as they host Juniata on
Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
