Field Hockey Drops Close Match to #8 Catholic

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna's field hockey squad dropped a tough 3-2 decision to No. 8 Catholic Saturday afternoon on Homecoming Weekend.

The Cardinals (6-3, 2-0) got on the board quickly, notching a goal only 1:02 into the game.

But the Crusaders (2-8, 0-2) responded with the equalizer in the 32nd minute when sophomore forward Brodie Ercole (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) knocked in a rebound after an Erica Reichart (Littlestown, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) shot was saved.

Catholic took a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute and held that advantage at intermission. The Cardinals outshot SU 17-5 in the opening half and held a 6-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Cardinals jumped to a 3-1 lead in the 63rd minute, cleaning up a rebound first saved by SU keeper Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern).

SU got within one goal in the 65th minute when freshman Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy) scored directly off a penalty corner by senior Allison Abey (Ewing, N.J. / Ewing), but Catholic held on for the league win.

Millett led SU with four shots and Ruth registered 15 saves on 31 total shots faced.

The Crusaders continue conference play as they host Juniata on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
