SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna football team suffered injuries to two quarterbacks, had less than 150 yards of offense and gave up 20 first downs to visiting Johns Hopkins, all of which in part led to a 34-7 home loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders (1-1, 0-1) gave up only two first-half touchdowns to the reigning Centennial Conference champions but injuries to starting quarterback Mark Rosenbaum (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and backup Casey Crotty (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), combined with a 20-point second-half effort from the Blue Jays (2-0, 1-0) led to a loss for SU in the conference opener for both squads.

Rosenbaum finished 8-of-15 for 36 yards but was sacked twice and held without a touchdown before leaving the game. Crotty threw just six passes before he, too when down with injury. Offensive coordinator Nate Milne was then forced to call on third-string QB George Pachucy (Olyphant, Pa./Scranton Prep) who finished with six completions for 37 yards and helped account for SU's lone TD.

No individual runner or receiver had more than 36 yards. Casey Tosches (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) had five catches for 36 yards and one score.

Defensively, Jack McCarty (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) and Adrian Bernard (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pius X) had 11 tackles apiece with Bernard coming up with one tackle for loss. Jalon Scott (Albany, N.Y./Albany HS) accounted for two pass breaks while Ken Schetroma (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) had nine tackles, including two for losses.

The Crusaders managed to possess the ball for 16 minutes over the first two quarters but had only six first downs to Johns Hopkins' 10 and went into the break with just 65 total offense yards over those first 30 minutes

The Blue Jays scored with 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter thanks to a three-yard J.D. Abbott run. More than midway through the second quarter, Johns Hopkins added another touchdown on a Robbie Matey 10-yard run that made it 14-0, which remained the score at halftime.

The Blue Jays added another seven points late in the third quarter before SU was able to get on the board just two minutes into the fourth quarter when Pachucy connected with Tosches for a nine-yard score.

Unfortunately Johns Hopkins regained six of those seven points on a touchdown with 5:59 to go and iced the game with a 46-yard scoring reception from Matey to Bob O'Orazio with 3:18 to play.

The Crusaders take to the road for the first time this season when they face Dickinson next Saturday at 1 p.m.
