SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After a three-game road stretch, the
Susquehanna men's basketball team returned home and captured
a 72-60 win over visiting Moravian.
Freshman Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md./Salisbury
Prep) broke out for a game-high 25 points, an impressive
21 of which came from beyond the arc. In fact, as a team the
Crusaders (6-11, 2-4) shot nearly 43 percent from three-point range
for the game.
Joining Hedley in double figures were Josh Miller
(Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg), who added 16 points,
and J.T. Wilson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) who
finished with 11 and tied for the team lead in rebounds with
six.
The Susquehanna bench out-scored that of Moravian by a 20-6 margin.
The Greyhounds (9-7, 2-4) were led by Cameron Cullen's
double-double as he had 21 points and 11 rebounds.
The teams traded threes to open the game before the Crusaders
scored three treys in a matter of less than two minutes, two of
which came from Hedley, to go ahead 16-12 with 13:15 left in the
half. Hedley would go on to finish the half with 12 points, all of
which came from long range.
Moravian was able to make it a two-point game several times over
the next few minutes until SU went on a 12-2 run that handed
Susquehanna a 33-22 advantage with less than four minutes left in
the half. The Crusaders upped that lead to 14 points (36-22) on a
Miller three-pointer at the 1:26 mark.
By the time the half wound down, Susquehanna maintained a
nine-point lead, 36-27, and finished the half shooting 41.2 percent
(7-of-17) from beyond the arc.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Crusaders
maintained a 10-15 point lead, including a 16-point lead (48-32) at
the 15:05 mark of the half.
Miller drained another three with 10:43 on the clock to keep his
squad ahead by 15 (53-38) but an 8-0 Moravian run quickly brought
that lead down to just seven points (53-46) with just over six
minutes to play.
SU was able to go back up by double digits on its very next
possession, a Wilson three-pointer, to make it a 56-46 ballgame.
While the Greyhounds kept the pressure on, they were never able to
get any closer than eight points and two Miller free throws and a
Hedley layup inside the 30-second mark preserved the Susquehanna
lead.
The men remain at home to host Juniata on Wednesday at 7:30
