Box Score

TOWSON, Md. – Despite rallying from an 11-point deficit, Susquehanna's men's basketball squad fell at Landmark Conference opponent Goucher 63-56 in overtime on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md. / Salisbury Prep.) hit a game-tying runner off the glass as time expired to send the conference contest into an extra session, deadlocked at 51.

In overtime, the Gophers went up 54-51 but a Harvey Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn. / St. Thomas More) jumper cut the deficit to one. However, six Goucher foul shots down the stretch gave the Gophers the 63-56 victory.

Goucher (5-8, 3-0) shot 76 percent from the charity stripe (25-for-33) whereas SU (5-9, 1-2) struggled at the line, going 7-for-22.

Luke Cable (York, Pa. / West York) led SU with 13 points while grabbing five boards. Pannell scored 10 points and six rebounds. Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa. / Central Mountain) scored nine points and grabbed nine boards for SU.

The Gophers' Richard Harris scored a game-high 26 points including12-of-13 shooting from the foul line.

Goucher opened up the game on a 7-0 run before a Tre Dean (Dallas, Texas / Greenhill School) jump shot put the Crusaders on the board at 15:18.

SU trimmed the deficit to two (10-8) less than three minutes later after Sellinger and A.J. Dean (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Twp.) both made jumpers.

Harris made a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to put SU in a nine-point hole (19-10), prompting head coach Frank Marcinek to call a time out at 8:35.

The Gophers went up by as much as 11 in the first half (29-18) with 2:29 remaining. Pannell hit a three and Cable buried a shot from beyond the arc at the buzzer as the Crusaders trailed at intermission 33-26.

Again SU found themselves down by 11 in the second half before a quick run highlighted by a Wally Rutecki (Springfield, Pa. / Springfield) old-fashioned three-point play cut the Goucher lead to four (39-35) with a little over 13 minutes to go.

Harris made several more field goals to give the Gophers a nine-point cushion but Josh Miller (Strasburg, Pa. / Lampeter Strasburg) and Cable both nailed three-pointers and Tre Dean hit a jumper to tie the game at 45 with 8:37 remaining.

Cable's field goal with less than six minutes left gave SU their first lead of the night (47-45) but Goucher responded quickly with a pair of free throws, tying the game once more at 47. Sellinger hit a jumper giving SU the lead once again with 1:50 left.

Unfortunately, a Gopher three-pointer by Brian Morton with 39 ticks remaining handed Goucher the lead 50-49. Morton also made a foul shot to give the Gophers a 51-49 advantage with seven seconds left before Hedley's jumper forced the game to OT.

The Crusaders hit the hardwood on Saturday at conference foe Merchant Marine at 4 p.m.
