SCRANTON, Pa. – Susquehanna's women's soccer
team dropped a 2-0 Landmark Conference match at the University of
Scranton on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (1-11-2, 0-4 Landmark) surrendered a goal in the
11th minute of play after Scranton's
Gianna Vitolo tapped in a rebound off of SU
goalkeeper Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J. /
Woodstown).
The game would stay 1-0 for the remainder of the first half as
the Royals (13-2, 3-0 Landmark) outshot the Crusaders by a 10-1
margin in the opening period.
The Royals would strike again five minutes into the second half
to take a 2-0 lead and that advantage proved to be enough for the
rest of the match.
SU fired off three shots in the second half and attempted two
corners but could not find the back of the cage. Junior forward
Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood /
Hiram) led the Crusader attack with two shots, one being
on goal.
Sophomore back Caitlyn Cameron (Bristow, Va. / Highland
School) and junior Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J. /
Chatham) each recorded a shot in the defeat.
Norbuts finished the match with a season-high 12 saves, as the
senior faced 26 shots on the afternoon.
The Crusaders look to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 23 by
hosting conference foe Juniata at 7 p.m.
