TOWSON, Md. – Susquehanna's women's swimming team defeated host Goucher 153-94 Saturday afternoon to begin the 2013-14 season.
The Crusaders started the day with a victory in the 400 medley relay, as the Susquehanna 'A' team composed of freshman Erin McElwee (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville Area), sophomore Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md. / Queen Anne's County), freshman Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) and junior Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del. / Sanford School) won with a mark of 4:12.50.
In the next event, the 1000 free, newcomer Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) won her first collegiate race with a time of 11:30.39, the seventh-best mark in program history. Classmate Morgan Sattler (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) finished in second with a mark of 12:07.37, also her opening collegiate action.
Junior Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio / Orange) captured the 200 free with a time of 2:04.61 and also won the 100 free with a mark of 58.18. McElwee took first in the 50 back, registering a reading of 29.33.
Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) won the 50 breast with a personal-best mark of 33.19. Weingarten took home first in the 100 fly with her time of 1:02.04 (eighth-best in program history) as well as in the 100 back with a reading of 1:06.04.
In the 50 free, Julia Doherty (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) touched the wall first, posting a mark of 26.35. Lessard won the 100 breast with her reading of 1:11.35.
The Crusaders are back in action on Saturday Oct. 26, competing at Gettysburg with Messiah at 1 p.m.
