SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University field hockey
team played host to the Gophers of Goucher College on Saturday
afternoon where the Crusaders had a successful day against their
Landmark Conference opponent, winning 4-1.
Susquehanna has now beaten Goucher in the teams' last seven
matchups, dating back to 2007. During that time, the Crusaders have
outscored Goucher 33-2.
Susquehanna (10-8, 2-4) got off to a quick start when freshman
Lauren Cram (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick)
put away the game's first goal following a SU penalty stroke.
Less than five minutes into the second half, freshman Emily
Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) put the team up 2-0
when she knocked one into the goal on a rebound from senior
midfielder Rebecca Marion (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven).
Lizzie Barminski had the lone score for Goucher that cut the
Crusaders lead to one (2-1). The Crusaders rallied back with two
more goals, however. The first came from sophomore
Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine/North Yarmouth
Academy) as she scored on a pass from junior
Brodie Ercole (Oakmount, Pa./Lewisburg Area), who
recorded her team-high sixth assist of the season. A second goal by
Novakovich put the Crusaders ahead 4-1.
Senior goalie Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry,
Pa./North) started the game and had four saves on the day.
Susquehanna out-shot Goucher 31-11 with Millett leading the way
with a game-high seven shots.
The Crusaders host Elizabethtown Sat. Nov. 2 at 1. This will
also be their senior day.
