MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna women's soccer team broke a two-match scoring drought but could not contain Drew's offense and fell to the Rangers 4-2 in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (1-9-1, 0-2) fell behind in the 28th minute when Mel Santos directed a header past SU goalkeeper Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J. / Woodstown) to give the Rangers the opening goal.
SU responded with a goal before intermission as senior Laura Buriak (Salem, Va. / Salem) collected a rebound and notched her first score of the year and 12thgoal of her career and the Crusaders headed to the break knotted at 1-1.
Unfortunately, Drew (9-0, 2-0) would go on a three-goal spurt in the second half with a trio of scores in a ten-minute span to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
The Crusaders received an unassisted goal from senior Oriana Long(Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area), her first of the year and of her career, to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the 71st minute.
The Crusaders were outshot by a 23-9 margin as freshman Emily Firestone(Dover, Pa. / Dover Area) led the attack with two shots on goal. Eight different players recorded a shot for the Orange & Maroon.
Norbuts finished with 11 saves on the afternoon while playing the entire match.
SU will host conference foe Catholic next Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. Seven members of the team will be honored for Senior Day in a pre-game ceremony.
