SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's tennis team
defeated visiting Penn State-Harrisburg 9-0 while the men's
team fell to the Nittany Lions, 9-0, in the final match of the fall
season for both squads.
The women finished the fall with a 5-2 record while the men went
2-4.
In women's singles action, Shelby O'Riley
(Ware, Mass./Quabbin Regional) led off at first singles
with a 6-1, 6-1 win and Jessica Klinger
(Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at second
singles. Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station,
N.J./Somerville) followed that with two 6-0 victories at
third singles and Jessica Lage (Franklin Lakes,
N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) dropped just one set at
fourth singles (6-1, 6-0).
Christine Bender (Amityville, N.Y./Long Island
Lutheran) won 7-5, 6-2 at number five singles and
Alyssa Fleischmann (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand)
capped off singles play with an efficient 6-1, 6-0 win.
The Crusaders also swept all three doubles matches. Klinger and
Bender teamed up at first singles to win 8-4 and Allison
Lobell (Harrisburg, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Kelly
Furlong (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) won 8-3 at number two
doubles. In the final women's doubles match of the afternoon,
Stephanie Painter (Westfield, Pa./Cowanesque
Valley) and Megan Rudloff (Milton, Pa./Milton
Area) picked up an 8-1 victory.
The men's team, meanwhile, could not pick up a win against
Penn State Harrisburg, dropping all six singles matches and three
doubles matches. Jeremy Neville (Wellesley,
Mass./Wellesley) and Dan Kinney (Hummelstown,
Pa./Hershey) put up a fight at number two doubles, falling
8-5, while Joseph Meyer (Skaneateles, N.Y./Manlius-Pebble
Hill) and Scott Rodd (West Hartford,
Conn./Conard) lost 8-4 at the final doubles spot.
